Final Fantasy III: Final Fantasy III - Job System Improvement Nintendo Entertainment System

Final Fantasy III was the first game to introduce a Job System that allowed the player to change characters' jobs at any point during the game. It brought us series standards such as the Dragoon, Summoner, and Geomancer. As the first try at a Job System it's not bad, but it could be better.

Final Fantasy III relies heavily on forcing certain encounters to "require" jobs. At one point in the early game you have to rely entirely on magic for two rather difficult segments. If you had spent your time trying out different job combinations only to find out you now have to change every one again, you may find that you've used up all your Capacity Points (CP) and you have to grind more before you can continue.

Well, no longer! The Job System should be about freeing the player to explore interesting combinations. Square got into the groove with later games in the series. This hack aims to bring Final Fantasy III more in line with later FF games.

Final Fantasy III - Job System Improvement

    Version: 3.0

This update is mostly a cleanup. I put all three patches into a single patch, since they're really meant to be used together. If you still wish to use the individual patches, they are in the Extras subdirectory.

This is meant to be used with the fan translation by Alex W. Jackson, Neill Corlett, and SoM2Freak. While it will work with the original Japanese release, or with the Chaos Rush translation, the Job Menu will appear strange because the Job Skill level will be shown twice.

    What This Does
    --------------
    - Capacity Points have been removed, so the Job Menu now shows Job Skill level.
    - If you have room in your inventory changing jobs will remove equipment automatically. Otherwise you'll get an error and have to clean out your inventory first.
    - Prompts related to equipment ("Removed") and job changing ("Yes/No" Confirmation) have been removed.

    How Do I Use These?
    -------------------
You'll need an IPS patcher to apply this to your ROM. I suggest Lunar IPS, but use the one you like! :)

    Special Thanks
    --------------
    - Squaresoft for making FF3, a game which has quickly become my favorite FF on the system.
    - Alex W. Jackson, Neill Corlett, and SoM2Freak for their incredible work on the fan translation.
    - silentenigma from the FF6Hacking.com forums for introducing me to the idea that FF3's mechanics might be able to be improved with his great Battle Interface Upgrade hack!
    - Madsiur and dn from FF6Hacking.com for helping me with ASM questions as I was learning the ins and outs of FF3.
