Rohrleitung Gate is a Steins;Gate inspired SMB1 hack. Unlike most other SMB1 hacks, it's a puzzle solving game, and requires quite some understanding to the SMB mechanics to beat. Savestates are recommended for this hack.

With 2-way scrolling within 2 pages and the mechanics of koopa shells breaking bricks and revealing hidden coin blocks, the game was made ideal for puzzle-solving stages, and these mechanics were exploited to the full extent. And there's more.

Technical-wise, this hack also has custom background (by metatile), parallax scrolling, VRC7 music, and a great amount of bugfixes to the original engine (wall jumps, going through walls etc). This is probably the 2nd most technically advanced SMB1 hack that has been released. Some enhancements are very underdeveloped, but as experiments, these enhancements paved the way for the author's later hacks.

Since I made the project without an assembler and only by hex editing, now I've forgotten a lot about the code, and plus I've lost some notes I made before.

I've shifted my focus towards my new hack Mario Gaiden, and I would likely not finish the hard quest part. Thus I'm releasing this version.



The hard quest was intended to be accessed in the hard mode of the game, but I've edited it so that it doesn't branch to the 4th world midway.

In certain stages, the solutions to the puzzles differ between the normal and the hard quest.

>What's so significant about this hack?

The majority of SMB1 hacks are devoid of ASM edits, and only a handful of them have used ASM edits to make the gameplay brand new. For instance, Extra Mario Bros is one of them. And this hack is another example.

By allowing 2-way scrolling within 2 pages and adding the mechanics of koopa shells breaking bricks and revealing hidden coin blocks, I've made it ideal for puzzle-solving stages, and I tried hard to make use of these mechanics to the full extent. And there's more.

The custom background is mostly underdeveloped though, due to my poor drawing skills, but as experiments, these enhancements paved the way for the hack Mario Gaiden.

Rohrleitung Gate is a Steins;Gate inspired, non-profit fangame (ROM hack). (Looking back though, it could've been made into a Yami to Boushi to Hon no Tabibito-inspired game)

In case you don't get the title, 'Rohrleitung' is the German word for pipe.

ROM Info: Mapper 85(VRC7), PRG=64KB, CHR=40KB (A great chunk of the CHR space is unused though)

Genre: Action puzzle

Difficulty: Gets very hard later, savestates advised (Complete it without savestates and you're a god). The use of glitches are forbidden (actually many wall glitches are fixed in this hack)



Basic knowledge:

>The screen can scroll in both ways for most stages.

>Enemies don't disappear when they're offscreen. They only disappear if they're defeated or if they fall into the abyss of death.

>Shells can break bricks and coins.

>Always watch for hidden stuff. They can either aid you or become Kaizou traps.



New functions:

SELECT - Injure yourself

Enter the Konami Code (without START) on the title screen - Get 31 lives and enter hard quest (also enables stage select). (Ever tried inputting this code more than once?)



The 'irreversible reboot' is inescapable.
