Breath Of Fire II: Breath of Fire II Keep the Great Bird

This is a small quality of life hack for the SNES version of Breath of Fire II.
In the course of the game, the party acquires the ability to fly on the overworld using the Great Bird. This ability is taken away from at some point however even though there are no compelling gameplay or story reasons to do so. This hack allows the player to keep the Great Bird until the end of the game, allowing easier travel.

About the hack

Breath of Fire II has what seems to be the typical progression of overworld
travel in JRPGs of that era, meaning that you can first move on land, then
acquire a method of traveling on water, and finally a way to fly. The latter
is the Great Bird in this case.
Unfortunately, at some point in the game the ability to use the Great Bird for
transport is taken away from the player. It is still possible to fly through
another method which is however much slower and more cumbersome. The player can
also use the Warp spell to return to places they have already visited but only
three characters learn this spell, and getting to some places is still a hassle
with this spell.
Both from a gameplay and story perspective it seems unnecessary to take away
the easy method of flying. This hack makes the Great Bird usable until the end
of the game once it is acquired thus making traveling on the overworld a lot
faster and easier, at least as long as Nina is in the active party.
Not losing the bird also means that Ryu's strongest weapon is no longer
permanently missable.

The hack works by removing the check if the player has progressed past a
certain point in the game and the branching to a different subroutine in this
case. If you want take it even further you could additionally edit all values
from 0x033548 to 0x03355d to 0xEA (i.e. NOP) to remove all checks which gives
Nina the ability to call the Great Bird at any point of the game and even
outside of the overworld which has great game-breaking potential.
