Final Fantasy III: Save Point Switch Super Nintendo

The Phoenix Cave and Kefka's Tower are two dungeons with a unique feature: you have to split into multiple parties when you enter them. These dungeons also have Save Points within them; when a party steps onto a Save Point, you can Save your game. However, try switching to another party and you'll notice you still have the ability to Save, regardless of whether or not that party is on a Save Point. Not only that, but they can also use Tents and Sleeping Bags. This patch adds a Save Point check to the party switching function.

URGENCY:
Medium to medium high. Even though there are only a handful of places where it applies, it's still rather unfair.

PURPOSE:
The Phoenix Cave and Kefka's Tower are two dungeons in the game with the unique feature of requiring multiple parties. When inside either of these dungeons, the player can press the Y button to switch between parties. However, these dungeons also include Save Points, which opens the door for an interesting glitch. If the player switches from a party on a Save Point (thus with the ability to Save) to a party not on a Save Point, the new party retains the old party's ability to Save or, by extension, use Tents and Sleeping Bags, despite the lack of a Save Point.

It may seem harmless to be able to Save using a different party as opposed to switching to the party on the Save Point just to do so, the ability to heal using Tents and Sleeping Bags doesn't make sense. I have seen discussion online about whether this is actually a glitch or an intended feature, since it has remained unchanged for any version, but to me it seems like more of an oversight. It's especially strange considering that the party reasonably loses the ability to Save as soon as they move.

The included patch alters the party switching function to reevaluate the information in memory that determines whether the party should be allowed to Save.

VERSION HISTORY:
v1.1 (October 13, 2016): Shrunk the patches slightly.
