Secret Of Evermore: Secret of Evermore - A/B Button Swap Super Nintendo

  • ~
  • Share
Secret of Evermore uses the B Button to confirm, with the A Button used to dash. This flies in the face of nearly every other SNES title out there. SoE's control scheme was likely intended to mimic Secret of Mana's, but unlike that game, SoE is hardcoded to use the B Button to confirm in menus.

This patch remedies the issue by changing the button inputs, their associated graphics and text, and forcing the game to use Config 2 when a save is loaded.

Please note, upon starting a new game the control scheme will still default to Config 1 (B Button: Confirm, A Button: Dash). However, each time a save is loaded, the behavior of forcing Config 2 (A Button: Confirm, B Button: Dash) will work as intended. Players are advised to change the button scheme manually when first starting a new game.

This patch is compatible with all of http://assassin17.brinkster.net/soe_patches.htm.

Preface

Secret of Evermore uses the B Button to confirm and the A Button to run, as opposed to the inverse
as most other SNES games. This may have been due to its inspiration, Secret of Mana, which uses the
same control scheme. However, unlike Secret of Mana, Evermore only allows the player to change the
buttons for exploration. This led to the development and release of this project.

This patch is compatible with assassin17's bug fixes. Please note that if you wish to use his
"Unsaved stat boosts fix" under any circumstances, you must start a new game.
